DEFINITION
Double kidney is the kidney which instead of being drained by oneureter to the bladder, is drained by two ureters.
This case is not about two separate kidneys but one kidney which is divided into two functional compartments and each one emptied by his own ureter.
IMPACT
The existence of double kidney on one or both sides does not automatically mean something pathological.
About 6%of the population have double kidneys without this causing any trouble.
Double kidneys aresimply combined with a greater percentage of urinary reflux than on a single kidney.
When we have reflux of urineon double kidney, it is usually related with the ureter that drains the bottom of the double kidney.
